The tube

I've been using the tube a lot recently - so it deserves a post!! I found a very interesting web page (link below) dedicated to everything tube!!!
Go where we may - just not too any of these stations (!):

Lots of stations have closed down, but are still sitting there in a strangely unnerving way (unnerving, anyway, for anyone who has seen Quatermass and the Pit).
They are: Aldwych (closed 1994), Blake Hall (1983), British Museum (1933), Brompton Road (1934), City Road (1922), Down Street (1932), Lords (1939), Marlborough Road (1939), Ongar and North Weald (1994)South Acton (1959), South Kentish Town (1924), St Mary's (1938), Uxbridge Road (1947), White City (1959) and York Road (1932).

I guess a page is turned

Today I have been made truly free! University is over. It’s scary, because of the looming question – now what? I look back on my time there with fond memories, particularly the last year when I lived in halls, in Brockley.

I lived on the fourth floor and spent a good amount of time on my friend’s windowsill sunning myself while we chatted.

We had breakfast at the breakfast place down the road, usually at 4pm nursing a hangover. It’s a lovely little place, that doubled as an art gallery. It was nice to see the pictures change, and talking about them made you feel a little cultured. It has three rooms, we had a favourite, the first one. An out-door seating area where once we sat under pub garden umbrellas even after the heavens had opened up on us, that day we even saw a rat scurrying around the garden.

The lamb chop place, that has the huge tropical fish tank that we could stare at for hours, watching the fish with the big lips.

The day we got the pet rats. We had two rats, a black one called Jack Daniels and a white one called Kebab Star, one big cage, a giant bag of saw dust, a big exercise wheel, exercise balls and other cage toys, and one big problem – no pets. The usual way to our rooms was through the main building, past the security guard to the lift. To avoid the security guard we went into the next building, lugged all the stuff up the stairs, through that building, through the connecting passageway into our building, in the lift and up to our floor.

The day we brought home traffic cones. Everyone at some point has done it – was my reasoning! For some reason the weaker girl, me, got the heaviest one! Making our way past the security guard ‘whispering’ to hide them and to keep quite very loudly.

The midnight fridge raid. We did this once! Hitting all four floors, each floor has two kitchens and each kitchen has two fridges! We were buggers for stealing food! But this was a massive haul! Alcohol, salami sausage, dried fish and anything weird and wonderful.

This halls had a garden, which is very plush indeed. I loved stretching myself out on the bench reading or sleeping in the sun. One day we went to the local Costcutter grabbed anything and everything and had a huge picnic in the garden. We had little plastic cups in the shape of cocktail glasses. We raced each other, crawling, along the grass.
Photos are of (hopefully) joke warnings that were put up in halls, Brockley

London - a taste, its yummy

Just after valentines day and in love...with my city. Today at a bus stop an elderly Chinese woman had around four or five plastic bags on the floor and she was desperately trying to organise them, beside her was one of those personal shopping trolleys that everyone seems to have these days. I had nothing else to do so I watched her for a bit, fretting and tending her carrier bags. Until the contents dawned on me. They all had broccoli in them. Nothing but broccoli. Even her trolley was packed to the top with broccoli. No bags of broccoli. Just broccoli.

Everyone is here in London. In halls last year I lived with a Russian girl, a Jewish girl from New York, a Cypriot male, a Mexican actress, an Irish lad and an Irish girl, a girl from Hong Kong, and a Belgium girl.

My first flat (which was above a shop in New Cross Gate, that had no double glazing nor central heating, and towards the end a hot tap that only gave out cold) was with a half Nigerian German girl. And now in my new room (in a large shared house in Hackney) the last of the original Korean group has left. Crazy Dancer from Mauritius has sadly gone too. The Turkish, Italian and the Argentine have been joined by an Eastern European man. The diversity of my house is really the only thing that gives it charm. Right now the toilet light bulb needs replacing, and has done for days, its either go in the dark or leave yourself to be exposed in house of six bedrooms, with only two of those rooms (mine included) having a single occupant. To add to this you have to gas yourself before the hobs on the stove turn on, and actually put your head inside the oven to light it manually, a mountain of rubbish bags on one side of the path and on the lawn the rotting corpse of a couch. I have also just been made the only female now the Korean and Bangladeshi girls have gone to be replaced by a French man and his friend a French speaking African male.

The weather has variety, not long ago the fountains in Trafalgar Square froze and then the snow, that stopped London if only for a day, came and now its sunny with a taste of spring in the air. And if I had money I would love to join a gym that classes include: boob aerobics, chav fighting, bitch boxing, saints and spinners and stiletto workout.

The images were captured on one night. The guy dressed as batman was a busker, taken near Waterloo Station. Pink Panther and friend was taken near Gordon's Wine Bar (Westminster)London's oldest wine bar and family-run underground tavern. Home to Samuel Pepys in the 1680s.
